KC-135E Stratotanker Arrival to AMC Museum

On August 7, 2009 one of the last KC-135E Stratotankers from the 108th Air Refueling Wing, New Jersey Air National Guard, made its final flight from its home base of McGuire AFB to the Air Mobility Command Museum at Dover AFB in Delaware.  What followed were two passes over Dover AFB prior to landing on Runway 1.  The Stratotanker taxied to the museum, paused under a ceremonial wash down by the Dover AFB crash rescue, and shut down in front of a crowd totaling about 250 people.  On hand for the event was Delaware Senator Tom Carper (Dem), Col. Dwight Sones - Commander of the 436th Airlift Wing, Jim Leech - Curator of the AMC Museum, and Brig. General Mike Cunniff - Commander of the 108th ARW, and who flew in the KC-135 on its final flight.

Please enjoy the photos I took, along with the video of the entire event, which also includes some normal operations from Dover AFB during the day.  Put your mouse pointer over each photo for a small description of what you're seeing.  I had planned on attending but completely forgot about it until the night before, and quickly put a charge on the video camera just in case I decided I'd go.  The first nine photographs can also be seen in the video (which is below all of the photos), as I was shooting the video at the same time I was taking the pictures.  Aside from myself, there were three other individuals covering the event on video - one of which covering from the same vantage point as mine.  Several photographers were on hand for this, and you will see some of their work below.

Gorgeous nose art. Believe it or not this very airplane wore Tiger Meet markings back in 1997-98.  Enlisted past and present make their mark on the jet.  Nose shot.

Right side of the fuselage.  Found this near the boom...  Rear fuselage, right side or forward fuselage, left side. Don't remember which...

The number one engine's nacelle is different due to the lack of a turbocharger.  The cockpit of 57-1507. I believe she was given a PACER-CRAG modification.  Navigator's table.

Special thanks to Jim Leech and Harry Heist of the AMC Museum as well as SGT Adam Maguire of Dover AFB Public Affairs
for allowing me access to the event on the moment's notice.

Currently the aircraft is not available for display as it is being defueled and demilitarized for public display.  No time frame
has been given as to when it will be on display, but it will most likely be located on the newly paved museum ramp.
