The 1997 Willow Grove NAS/JRB Sounds of Freedom Airshow

Written May 1, 2000

Willow Grove puts on a nice airshow for a small base. In fact, they went overboard in 1997 with the Blue Angels performing. It was a surprise to many of us. It actually turned out to be a nice show.

Show Review

I loved this airshow. It is much better than McGuire's airshows, and Willow Grove puts the attention to their shows in variety, not just all military. The great performances by Frank Ryder, Chuck Lischer, Sean D. Tucker, Smoke-N-Thunder, and the Six of Diamonds caught my eye really well. Military performances from the F-117, F-14, F-16, and P-3 were also great treats to the crowd, especially myself. The TBM... well I don't have anything to say about it since we arrived when it was doing its demo. Philadelphia's own WB17 was one of the sponsors, and did a live telecast on the Saturday show (sadly, I wasn't on camera). The static displays were varied, and excellent for the base. Fat Albert was also something I never saw before. This was a treat seeing the JATO display of the C-130 Hercules. The highlight of the show was the Blue Angels, performing their top-notch performances in those sleek F/A-18s. Overall, it was an excellent airshow!

Disappointments

I will be adding the pictures as soon as I can scan them. I have a disposible camera that still has one picture left before I can turn it in. That camera has the majority of my pictures. As soon as I can egt those pictures, I will scan them and put them on here.
